General Program Overview
WakeMed, UNC Lenoir Health Care, Vidant Health, Mission Health, and the UNC Adams School of Dentistry are pleased to offer a coordinated 2022 Virtual Students@Work Health Care Day on March 2 for middle school students from throughout North Carolina. The event will feature six live 40-minute sessions that will be held from 7:40am – 2:20pm with a break for lunch from 11:30am - 12:30pm.
Each session will expose students to 1-3 types of careers or career settings that can be found within any hospital. Students are welcome to participate in as many sessions as they would like. While we would like for as many students as possible to benefit from the live presentations, a recording of the sessions will be available after March 2 so that registered students can go back and watch them later.
The topics will include the following.
- Vidant Health (Each topic is a separate session.)
- Maynard Children’s Hospital
- EastCare (includes EMT, Paramedics, Communications and Flight Nursing)
- UNC Lenoir Health Care - Lab, Radiology and Outpatient Physical Therapy
- WakeMed – Medical Simulation
- UNC Adams School of Dentistry – Careers in Dentistry
- Mission Health - TBD
Each virtual session is listed as a separate resource within Navigator. To select specific sessions, find each of the health care providers listed above among the Students@Work resources and choose the sessions individually that you would like for your students to have the option of attending. You will be contacted with further instructions after you register.
Specific Session Overview
The live session associated with this resource will take place from 8:40am-9:20am on March 2. It will be presented by Vidant EastCare.
Vidant EastCare provides critical care air and ground transportation service for all of eastern North Carolina. There are multiple ground units, including one dedicated to children’s transport. EastCare’s five air units are based in Bertie, Craven, Nash, Onslow and Wayne counties. You may be transported directly from the scene of injury or illness or transferred from a regional hospital to Vidant Medical Center. EastCare and the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital partner to staff a Children's Transport Team which transports more than 1,700 children each year. All units provide rapid transportation and advanced medical care to critically ill and injured patients, including trauma, cardiac, medical, high-risk obstetric, burn and pediatric patients, and more.
