I grew up in Woodside, New York, and attended high school at an all-girls school in Manhattan.  After high school, I attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition.  Next, I completed a two year Masters program and Nutrition internship at Tufts University where I achieved a Master of Education degree, certification as a Registered Dietitian, and Teaching Certification in Science.
For 16 years, I  worked as a Clinical Dietitian at several hospitals, including Duke University Medical Center and WakeMed.  While at WakeMed, I took night +classes at NC State to earn teaching certification in Special Education.  For the next 23 years, I worked as a Special Education Teacher in Wake County.  I taught students with autism, severe cognitive disabilities, and deaf-blindness.  Throughout my career, I continued to participate in continuing education and college-level courses to learn new skills.
