Juvenile Assessment Team (JAT)

JAT provides mental health and substance use assessments for youth involved in the juvenile court system. Youth and families receive support with making connections to recommended treatment services. Youth can only be referred by the Wake County Juvenile Court System.

Conducts screenings and comprehensive clinical assessments for youth currently involved with the juvenile justice system.

Youth are solely referred by the Wake County Juvenile court system for this program. The assessment will result in a recommendation for services that will target needs that have led to the youth’s involvement with the legal system.  This program will facilitate the linking of youth to the recommended services in the community. The Juvenile Assessment Team also conducts psychoeducational substance abuse groups in the Wake County Detention Center utilizing a Brief Seven Challenges model of treatment. Staff with the Juvenile Assessment Team work out of the Wake County Courthouse and Cabarrus Street office.
